My Doctrinal Disagreement with Pastor Joseph Selman on the Gospel of Grace as incomplete without the “Gospel of the Kingdom”

I was listening to @PastorJosephSelman today from the video below

c When you go around timestamp 28:28 out of the 5 hour video, this is what he says

…listen, please and please, I don’t mean this to discredit ministers and ministries in the body of Christ but I’ve said it again and again that the message of Grace is only an accurate message if it is accepted as part of the full Gospel – are you getting my point? The Whole Gospel must be preached. There is a level to which the Grace message is taught and just tells you, “Oh! Don’t concentrate on your love for God, concentrate on His Love for you, and concentrate on all that and you know, anything will happen, everything has been done”.

Wonderful! WHAT THEN IS THE REWARD OF OBEDIENCE? Why then is there hell fire? If everything is like that God must apologise to Ananias and Sapphira, don’t you think so? Was it not in the New Testament they fell down and they died? Why? Couldn’t He have at least given them a chance, maybe they will repent later on? How could a loving God make the lake of fire?

Hallelujah! Seven Churches in the Book of Revelations when God began to talk to them, He was focused on their works, “…I know your works, I know your works…”. Is that in your bible? Brothers and Sisters be careful, Hallelujah. Honour the Body of Christ but realise that if the Gospel is not taught holistically, it can lead people into error. There are a lot of people missing it and dancing around in ignorance believeing. Are you getting my point?

Then he goes on to describe a distinction between powerful men of God in the past of D. L. Moody who could not retain believers after his death due to the emotionalism of his teachings but Charles G. Finney was able to retain more – to show that there is something that Finney did right but Moody did wrong. He ends this part with

…there are missing sides that we must couple together. Brothers and Sisters, Listen to me, God is a loving God, but He is also a just God. Hallelujah! What I have just told you now is called, “The Gospel of the Kingdom“. It switches dimension and lets you know that Jesus is not only a saviour but He’s a king. Hallelujah. We have allowed believers to do all kinds of things. There are believers today who have all kinds of pornography on their phones, their laptops, they watch it and the moment the Holy Spirit wants to convict them, they say, “I will never feel guilty, I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.” Tomorrow they go back and do it again… …you know I love you too much not to tell you the truth. People sleep around and do all kinds of things and yes, God is a forgiving God; there is a difference between a challenge in your life and the spirit of rebellion at work in your life. Rebellion is a pepertual willful continual state of violating God’s principles and the consequence is hell fire – I don’t care whether you’re a pastor or whether you are whatever. Please take what I am saying seriously. Hallelujah.

Paul! Who brought what we call the Pauline epistles, I have a question, “Why did they stone him?” Have you ever wondered? Why did they stone him? What did he say that got the people angry that they stonned him? Hallelujah! Why did they behead James? It wasn’t just because they were angry at them. There was a content that we are missing today. I’m telling you, this is why many believers are not powerful. Anything comes and just throws us down. Because there is a content of the gospel that needs to be re-examined. Now don’t carry your zeal and go and listen to every message a man of God is preaching and you get up and say, “I know better”, that’s foolishness. I hope you understand that God is granting us maturity. But I am just telling you that as much as the Grace message is good, it only makes sense when it is incorporated with the whole truth. There are many other components of the Kingdom. What’s the formula for water? H2O. Add one more oxygen to it and you get H2O2. What is that? Same thing that can be water, adding something else to it and it can become poison at once and kill you. Everything in the kingdom must be taught within the dimensions that Jesus kept them. Hallelujah. I’m saying this because there are people who will be listening to these teachings all across and some of you God is going to trust you with ministries, you will have your churches, please don’t be afraid of being criticised. You must stand and teach the truth. Are you getting me?

I remember somebody who sent me a text one day and said, “Please, I have a problem with you praying for people. How do believers just manifest and you say you are casting out demons out of them? Is that really true?” I just sent the person a text, I said, “I love you, we see from different perspectives in the Kingdom and God will help us; we operate from the perspectives that we see.” And that’s all I said. Praise the Lord. AYAYA

And the very last line of that quote is problematic to me. Pastor Joseph Selman is a well-mannered man juxtaposed by his grace to respond to that texter like that. But it shows me that he is convinced of his position in this matter and is not open-minded. I will not say that he has not read up on this subject because he seems to be well versed with some of the things that those who subscribe to the gospel of Grace nowadays say. But he sees the Gospel of Grace as something incomplete and must be taught in light of the “the whole truth”. This “whole truth” he proposes is called “the Gospel of the Kingdom”. But he commits an error of understanding doctrinal schematic in my opinion. In logic, there is what they call a “Category Error/ Mistake”. This is the logical fallacy when you semantically take attributes belonging to a certain category and ascribe it as if they belonged to another category. Let me elaborate

c During one of John Lennox debate with Atheist, Lawrence Krauss, Lawrence was debunking the existence of God stating that we now understand mechanisms for the Law of Nature that explain away the necessary sufficiency of God to explain why certain things work the way they do. John told him that this was a Category Error. My simpler example would be if I asked you a question, “Why is the water boiling?” There are two categories of answers you can give to me. You can explain to me that the water was boiling from the category of electrical energy being converted into heat energy and vibrating the atoms of the water in the kettle thereby making it to boil. OR You can explain to me from a different category that the water in the kettle was boiling becasue you wanted a cup of tea. One is the category of the mechanisms, the other is the category of existential intentions. Category Errors occur mostly because one does not understand the scope/ vision of each categories very well (to use a project management terminology).

I wonder if Pastor Joseph Selman understands the scope-differences between “The Gospel of Grace” and “The Gospel of the Kingdom”. The “Gospel of the Kingdom” simply summerises that Jesus is King in its scope akin to the previous illustrated category of existential intentions. The “Gospel of Grace” simply summerises the methodology by which Jesus brings us into His kingdom. So, which one is higher than the other? The scope of existential intentions or the scope of mechanism/ methodology? The next question would be “Higher in what sense?” What operative framework are we going to operate on? From the other given example, if you were an Atheist Scientist and I expalined to you that the water was boiling due to these scientific mechnisms, then you seem to accept that. But if that same Atheist scientist took off his scientific hat and wore a the hat of the different operative framework of a poet, and you explained to this same human being that you just wanted a cup of tea, then, is that somehow superior to the explanations by mechnisms/ methodology?

To say that the Gospel of Grace is incomplete without the Gospel of the kingdom, I believe, misses the point.

The African/ Nigerian Relationship Culture VS God’s Kingdom Relationship Culture

I have a suspicion regarding why the Gospel of Grace is vehemently intolerable by many Nigerians and Africans. There are also other non-African Christians who think this way mostly from Calvanistic Circles. The African/ Nigerian culture is harsh and many Calvanists are harsh to themselves too. For example, have you seen the way Paul Washer preaches. This, in a way, is how they work out their salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). However, this “fear and trembling” is coupled with a sub-cultural contextual models of understanding. We both know that the bible uses “fear” in two different ways depending on the context. Other places in the Bible the bible tells us to “Fear not” and other places we are told to have fear. I won’t go into an exegetical explanation on the two types of fear right now but I am only drawing out a different point – that context matters. The Social Model Context that most Africans/ Nigerians have when relating to a person of reverential authority is to keep them on a high place of honour which is only half the truth that one must do. Howbeit, when you come to other first world countries like in Europe and North America, you see a different culture in which one can befriend a person of higher authority than them. “Friendship” connotes that you and someone else relate on a level of equality. Authority connotes that you and someone else relate on an unequal level. In a social context, can you be friends with your boss? The answer is yes – this is possible. However, is it probable? or advisable? Maybe not. The next question: Does God want us to be his Frineds? The answer is yes. Jesus said

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. _John 15:15 KJV

Even though the previous verse said:
You are My friends if you do what I command you. _John 15:14 KJV

But we all know that the exegetical context there is SPECIFICALLY talking about the commandment where Jesus explicitly say in that passage, “This is my Commandment, Love each other as I have loved you”. Whatever your philosophy of “love” is, one thing that it fundamentally is, is a form of affection. What Jesus is saying here in essence is that we display the affections of Jesus to each other NOT the affection we have. Our worldly affections lead to all sorts of problems but obeying the command to display the affections of Jesus to each other makes us FRIENDS OF GOD. This is how we obtain equality with God. Not equality in terms of essence or identity but equality in display. For example, two twins may not be equal in terms of essence or personal-identity, but they are equal in display. Jesus said,

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves.
 _John 14:7-11

Our equality in display is not in equality in display of “faces” like in looking at twins … but in equality in display of love. This is the simple ingredients of being friends with Jesus. When you look at Jesus, you see an equality of display as though you were looking at God the Father and God the Holy Spirit but they are not equal in identity (though equal in essence).

Another point I want to bring out in explaining this was a time I was teaching about the Grace of God. I was telling my church that God wants this kind of extreme intimacy relationship with us even deeper than what a friend or spouse can give to us that He tells us

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. _Luke 14:26 KJV

In the Greek, “hate” here exegetical means “love less”. Being a disciple of Jesus is a necessary ingredients to learn from him his commandments to love one another and thereby be promoted from “servant” to “friends” after he has told us all that He has heard from the Father. I told my church that the gods of the earth do not permit questioning their authority or even debating with them to reason things out. You see in islam where Allah says

O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.A people asked such [questions] before you; then they became thereby disbelievers. _Surah 5:101-102

Now compare that with the bible where it says,

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. _Isaiah 1:18 KJV

There are certain questions in islam you are forbidden from asking especially the questions that can make you an apostate of that religion. But God in the Old Testament is telling us to bring our filthy state and reason with Him. This is a message that the African/ Nigerian culture is still trying to incorporate into its Social Model Context. Add to this where God says,

Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. _Isaiah 45:11 KJV

This is stange to the African/ Nigerian mindset. You see, the Nigerian mind is filled with “respecting” higher authorities and not “befriending” higher authorities. The notion that a Nigerian will Command God concerning the works of His hands sounds strange; I remember my earthly father saying in His Nigerian accent, “Kai! I never spoke to my father like that! Why would you speak to God like that?!” And I had to show him the exact chapter and verse in the Bible where it is the desire of our Daddy-God that we relate to Him like this. Not that I was being disrespectful to God Almighty that a little small me will command Him.

Many of us do not see the subtle pride in our African cultures in the way we grew up and related to our respected earthly parents and then we project that unto God Almighty thinking that the way our earthly father was is the way Our Heavenly Father is. This is not so. There is a DIFFERENT CULTURE – a Heavenly One, between us and God than what our earthly parents demonstrated to us. That is not to say that we are to do an opposite 180 degrees reversal and start talking to God in an informal way. But we should TAKE GOD AT HIS EXACT WORDS the way He Himself desires to relate with us – As Equal Friends, yet, as Unequal in Authority. As we, the Church are the Bride of Jesus also, which, if being “Friends” wasnt enough to scatter your African mentality, being a “Bride” of Jesus should cause your African Mentality an exceedingly great traumatic existential crisis; as Brides, we know we are equal to our husbands but he is the authority in the house. Likewise, we see this same complexity in the Godhead where Jesus sometimes claims equality with God but also admits that the Father is Greater than Him (John 14:28).

Now that I have made the previous foundations ready let me move on to other points regarding the mechanism that Pastor Joseph Selman had contentions about.

Focus on God’s Love For You – Not on Your Love For God nor for Others

Andrew Murray wrote a beautiful book about humility that opens ones eyes to the amazing meditations of humility. A sense you get from it is not like how C. S. Lewis captured humility on “not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less”. Which is great. Andrew Murray makes humility to be about “NOT THINKING ABOUT YOURSELF AT ALL”. You see place in the book where Murray say

“Humility is nothing but the disappearance of self in the vision that God is all.”

― Andrew Murray, Humility: The Journey Toward Holiness

What may bother Pastor Joseph Selman pertaining to this point is the search for the “REWARD OF OBEDIENCE”. But Obedience to what? Obedience to works? Or Obedience to the Faith/ Belief? I know that later on in the video above Pastor Selman made a distinction between “belief” and “faith”. But that would be imposing an English understanding of “faith vs belief”. Ancient Greek or Aramaic isn’t known for having such clear distinctions because it was ancient and much more simpler. People spoke in “context” in those days and not in high linguistics particularities like we do nowadays. I have already given the contextual understanding of the two different kinds of “fear” in the bible. If not, we stay confused as though the bible was contradicting itself to fear and to fear-not in the same sense. So it’s the same thing with faith and belief. I believe this distinction is unnecessary as it splits hairs. Let’s go in-depth into it so you see what I’m talking about. Consider two famous bible verses. John 3:16 contains the greek word “believe” (Greek = pisteuó) and Hebrews 11:1 contains the word “faith” (Greek = pistis). Click the links overthere and work with me. Scroll down to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon (TGL) on both hyperlink pages and pin-point the closest places that these greek words were used.

  • “believe” (Greek = pisteuó) is defined in TGL1b as to have a faith directed unto, believing or in faith to give oneself up to, Jesus, etc.
  • “faith” (Greek = pistis) is defined in TGL1 as in the N. T. of a conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervor born of faith and conjoined with it:

So understanding how these things are used in their different contexts is very important while making one overarching-generalisation of distinguishing “faith” and “belief” would do nothing but dilute doctrine of its linguistic richness in search for a theory of everything (T.O.E) that summerises all of “faith” to mean one thing and all of “belief” to mean one thing.

Pastor Jospeh Selman seems to be weary that focusing ALL on Jesus and NOTHING on self would make one not take the right actions. However, the bible tells us

"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." _2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV

That is to say, it is only by beholding Jesus, are we then changed into being like Him. The level at which you behold Jesus is the level at which you become more and more like Him from glory to glory. If you behold Jesus 99% and 1% you behold yourself, you are ineligible for the perfect kingdom of God. I mean, its not that being a Christian is hard or difficult. Being a Christian is supposed to be violently IMPOSSIBLE. 1% of self is a pitiful failure; almost like the curse of reaching the gates of your promised land and not being able to enter. Imperfections do not enter heaven.

I mean, its not that being a Christian is hard or difficult. Being a Christian is supposed to be violently IMPOSSIBLE.

The Obedience Jesus wants from us is the Obedience to the belief/ faith. Let Jesus speak for Himself this is what He said:

28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. _John 6:28-29 KJV

Pastor Selman went on in that sermon in a different context to talk about how hearing the word of God over and over again would one day make you spring into action and do it. He is right. The way you “believe” is the way you will “live”. Pastor Selman is also afraid of a scenario where a person might purport to have “faith” and then “take no action”. But this would be missing what faith actually entails by people in those days. You see, there are two people whom Jesus said had great faith in the bible. Others, He said to them, “thy faith has made you healed”. But not, “Great is thy faith”.

  • The Centurion
  • The Syrophoenician Woman

What did they have in common that Jesus said they had great faith? They couldn’t be any more distinct can they? One is a Soldier understanding authority, the other is a Civilian who wouldn’t leave them alone, ignoring the fact that she isn’t welcome. One is a Man, the other is a Woman. One Jesus was obliging to go heal his servant, the other Jesus was playing hard to get to heal her daughter; even to the point of insulting her and implying she’s a dog. What exactly do they have in common for Jesus to say they have Great Faith? The only common denominator of their great faith is something in common that helped them – Being Gentiles meant that they were ignorant of the law but COMPLETELY AWARE of Jesus.

The Law demands from bankrupt man when it says, “Thou shall not do this” or “Thou shall not do that” – thereby, making us focus on ourselves and our inadequacies. This is how we fail in life. However, when you focus on Jesus, you start to change to become more and more like Him. The bible talks about a curse of not wanting to keep Jesus in your mind or focus on Him, the bible says:

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; _Romans 1:28 KJV

That is to say, if you have 1% of your mind on yourself, that is the level to which you have a 1% reprobate mind – which, in God’s eyes, is a failure and insult.

To end this part, I plead:

  • Do not focus on your love, focus on Jesus’ Love
  • Do not focus on your righteousness, focus on Jesus’ Righteousness
  • Do not focus on your obediece, focus on Jesus’ Obedience

Even advertisers in the world know of this principle in this attention economy where Big Corporation companies like Facebook, Google, Television, Bill boards etc want to sell you adverts. The more they can put their images before your eyes and focus, the more you find yourself subconsciously desiring to do what they want you to do. Likewise, the level of your Total Obedience to Jesus is directly proportional to the level of your Total Focus on Him. Now I do not always focus on Jesus myself, its a work in progress, but I’ll be cursed and damned if I ever allow a doctrine to make me focus on my filthy and bankrupt love. I fail to love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my strength, all my mind per second per second. But Jesus doesn’t fail. So I look to the one who exchanged my love for His, my righteousness for His and my obedience for His.

God must apologise to Ananias and Sapphira, don’t you think so?

This is the next part that Pastor Joseph Selman brought up. Here, he was suggesting that Ananias and Sapphira died in the New Testament which was supposed to be an era of Grace. But one only needs to see the scenario of what was happening there and to likewise apply doctrine to the explanation. The story of Ananias and Sapphira is juxtaposed by the context of the previous chapter from Acts 4:32 where all the believers were “one in heart and mind”. No one claimed that any of his posessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. Verse 34 of Acts 4 goes on to tell us that there was no needy person among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sale and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. This was the proof of their one mindedness and heartedness.

So, what was going on here. You see? I have been kept in charge of building my church’s operational infrastructure, my personal business infrastructure and, if you go on in the video of Pastor Selman, at some point, he began to talk about infrastructure and how he automatically pays tithes because that has been set in place as an operational infrastructure. In Business Management, one is keenly aware of two things,

  1. The Strongest Link
  2. The Weakest Link

I worked in sofa furniture company once where the strongest operational links in the business infrastructure were the sales people. They were paid far higher than the hardworking handymen working in the warehouse beautifying, storing, reparing the sofas. The weakest link was getting motivated warehouse staff who will stay indoors and work at a successful pace, without seeing the sunlight for a long time yet, without getting injured while having a good attitude about it all. They tooke care of us in the warehouse, don’t get me wrong. It was not that they paid us more but it was more effective to give a pool table and TV to distract ourselves with the politics of the news than to employ stricter working measures to push us more.

When you look at the “Business Infrastructure” of the early Church – who were in their baby and infancy state (they were not even called “People of The Way” by then yet) their weakest operational infrastructure point was depending on the “Honesty and Sincerity” of the believers.

A look at Commentaries on Acts 5:1 tells us that Ananias and Sapphira were hypocritical fake-believers about to defraud the church. Think about it: the same fraudulent lieing heart that can claim that the money they were presenting to the apostles was full, is the same fraudulent heart that can come back in a U-Turn and claim more money and resources pretending to be in need of more. They could say, “I have need of some sheep, clothing, food etc”. It would be given to them out of the loving kindness of the Christians heart there, they would go to the market, sell it, make more money on top of it. Turn back and say, “we are in need for more”. This would end up making the church impoverished thereby, killing the church before it even started. Ananias and Sapphira would have told some of their evil friends of this amazing lucrative business deal to scam gullible christians who’s minds are in the woo-woo heavens on cloud 9. The Holy Spirit was not having any of these agents of satan do their worst. God has no obligations to protect unbelievers who are not sincerely under the umbrella of the new covenant. And this is a warning to all those who have the heart to harm a church COMPLETELY commited to Jesus – your Judgement shall be quick and merciless. There is no Grace left for you but a fearful expectation of Judgement.

So if Pastor Selman was wondering why God killed Ananias and Sapphira because they were Christians; I say, they were fake Christians out to scam the Church … so the Grace of God does not apply to them for they are not part of the new covenant.

Seven Churches, “…I know thy works, I know thy works…”

Well, I have spoken on the way Jesus equated work to belief in John 6:29 which was a hard sermon for some hearts there. This is the same passage that has the famous John 6:66 … as in “666” where disciples left Jesus after he said these things where Jesus was teaching in strange ways that He is the bread of life and we are to eat Him. If being a “friend” or “bride” of Jesus was too hard for your African Mind, to stomach, wait until you hear about this “spiritual cannibalism” Jesus is presenting to us. I tell you the truth and I repeat again, its a great error to project your earthly relationships to Yahweh lol. This is a whole new cultural relationship we are dealing with and the bible should be allowed to speak for itself without us adding nor subtracting from it.

5 out of the 7 Churches in the Book of Revelations in the Bible got the “I know your works” comment out of Jesus. 4 out of those 5 got a good positive association with the “I know your works”. Look at this:

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: _Revelations 2:2 KJV

Jesus, being Infinitely intelligent, who also gave the Holy Spirit the unction to unction Paul, also said this:

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; _1 Thessalonians 1:3 KJV

I submit to Pastor Selman and all those who when they see “works” or “deeds” in the bible, automatically think of their earthly culture of displaying some earthly demonstrations without seeing it more from the perspective as a demonstration of the heart. That would indeed make you a lukewarm Laodicean Church where your heart is not there, but your actions pretends. That makes you a potential Ananias and Sapphira in-waiting.

Apart from the proof I gave about focusing on Jesus to change you to become more and more like Him, the bible says that out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks. As I said before, I say again, “As you believe, so you live.” That is to say, if you find your “living” lacking, do not check for a problem in your live or methodology or maybe you were cursed, check for a problem in your “believing”. Man! I just preached to myself real good. It’s easier said than done but I’m not looking at my efforts to help me do this impossible task, I’m putting my confidence in the Holy Spirit to Quicken me from dead works unto faith

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.
 _Hebrews 6:1

And what are these dead works?

13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? _Hebrews 9:13-14

The bible always uses the context of “Dead Works” in terms of doing certain ceremonial actions to gain God. I know there are certain actions we need to tak in real life to gain things – they are called principles. You put your hand in fire and it burns. You work hard and you might just be rich. However, there is NOTHING left that we can do to gain the approval of God than to have faith/ belief in Jesus and what Jesus has done.

Pastor E. A. Adeboye normally says that God does not like to talk too much. He only has to speak once and it is done. Two times and its just an echo. Three times and you start to hear the irritation come out of Him. Four times and you are not changing His mind on anything. In 4 different places in the bible, it says over and over again, “The Just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17,Galatians 3:11,Hebrews 10:38, Habakkuk 2:4). In each of all those contexts, it points out how no one is justified by the law but by faith; how the righteousness of God is revealed only by faith; how proud people with lifted souls don’t live righteously-by-faith; and how if anyone draws back from being justified by faith, Daddy-God has no plesure in them.

Spirit of Pornography REBELLION and “I will never feel guilty, I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus”

What is Pastor Selman trying to say in this context? It is of a surety that Doctrine teaches us not to practice a guilty conscience or an “evil conscience” but to practice a righteousness-conscience by faith. For faith is our gym that we go to so that “as we believe, so shall we live”. Godly sorrow is good as it bears a lot of hope and joy in it. But a guilty conscience? Why Pastor Selman?

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. _Hebrews 10:22 KJV

Jesus wants me to focus on Him, not on my sin. In fact, the only way to get out of the vicious cycle of the addictive spirit of rebellion is to break it from somewhere.

Guilt is the last place that most psychologist say that completes the Addiction cycle. If you refuse to close the chain of addiction cycle, does this lead to more emotional triggers? No. Why would you want any child of God to have something as demonic as guilt? Guilt is “fixing your eyes on your own righteousness”. Justification is “fixing your eyes on Jesus righteousness”. Then fixing your eyes on Jesus is the most humbling thing you can do as I’ve said Andrew Murray said. Only in the state of humility can God raise you up out of your troubles. Because you start to look like Jesus and change from Glory to Glory as proven from 2 Corinthians 3:8. Pastor Selman, have you sinned today? Yes. Did you have guilt over it? I hope not. But taking this earthly (African) culture of beating up yourself and thinking you will change is not the heavenly culture. How does God’s divine culture lead us to repentance? The bible says

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” _Romans 2:4 KJV

How does God’s divine culture constrain us from sining or compells us not to sin? The bible says,

For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then we're all dead: _2 Corinthians 5:14 KJV

What teaches us to say “no” to sin?

11For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; _ Titus 2:11-12 KJV

So why is Pastor Joseph Selman talking as if “not having guilt” in Christ Jesus somehow makes one sin more and more? Were we not still sinning more and more when we had all these guilts plaging us? Now, I do understand that he is afraid of those who will abuse Grace and see it as a license to sin. The fakers get nothing but a merciless and fearful expectations of judgment as Ananias and Sapphira had. But the fakers should not be used as a yardstick for those who are trying to obey the letter of the bible. The bible says

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. _1 John 1:7 KJV

Excuse me, what is the “Blood of Jesus” doing cleansing people-of-light from all sins? Did John understand that Christians sin? And the tense used there is a present continuous tense to sugget that the Blood of Jesus is cleaning people-of-light per second, per second even against sins we dont even know about. I do understand that “people in the world” who dont feel guilty over their sins are known as the sociopaths and the psychopaths. However, this should not be projected on “people in Jesus” who fix their eyes on HIs Glory, on His Righteousness, On His Love. This earthly/ African culture projection has to stop as it is twisting scriptures and doctrines in my proven opinions. Christianity is not supposed to be hard/ difficult – its violently impossible.

Why Stone Paul or Behead James if their Sermons were plesant?

Assuming pleasant sermons never invite stonning is probabilistically ideal – though, not impossible. Apart from relying on natural probabilities, we can also factor in the spiritual possibilities that Satan was also moving the hearts of men to be violent against the “Good News”. Good News = Gospel. Jesus said

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. _Matthew 10:22 KJV

Let us take a closer exegetical look at John 16

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin1, and of righteousness2, and of judgment3: _John 16:8

I have numbered 3 things there. Now look at the context of the bible passage there

of sin1, because they do not believe in Me1;  of righteousness2, because I go to My Father and you2 see Me no more;  of judgment3, because the ruler of this world3 is judged. _John 16:9‭-‬11

Do you see there are 3 players here?

  1. The world = convicted of sin
  2. You (righteous believers) = convicted of righteousness
  3. Satan – the ruler of this world = convicted of judgement

Could it be that the reason that Paul and Jame’s gracious and pleasant sermons were convicting the world of sin? While simultaneously giving them the open opportunities to be convicted of righteousness? Plus the demons in them just got angered because they have been judged? Its all possible and highly probable. The bible says:

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. _John 3:19 KJV

The more people continue to focus on their deeds, the more they hate the light. The more they hate the light, the less their faith will be.

But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, _Romans 4:5

I know the Nigerian/ African culture is plagued with respect and the inability for one to “befriend” an authority figure – well, its highly rare, so I Acquiesce to it in this temporary spot in earthly time to apologise for any “disrespect” felt. I am normally a logical thinker and I aim to know more of the Cultural Drama of heaven and less of the Cultural Drama of earth. I hope that Pastor Joseph Selman will not commit the category error of using “the gospel of the kingdom” to superceed some level of priority-importance above “the gospel of Grace”. Here is what Paul said:

6I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 10For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. _Galatians 1:6-10 KJV

Does Pastor Joseph Selman feel like he is “pleasing men’s” sinful spirit of rebellion when Paul talks about the Gospel of Grace and how the Gospel of Grace stops non-fakeing Christians from feeling bad over their pornographic addictions? Or is he serving Christ when he tells them to focus 100% their conscience away from guilt and unto Jesus so that they can be changed to be like Him from Glory to Glory? Paul makes 2 great curses while contextually equating the “Grace of Christ” to be the ONLY GOSPEL in verse 6. Verse 7 says, there is no other gospel out there but perversions taught by doubly cursed people. Paul here is using the strong language, I am only a messenger. I’m not trying to be rude. But this is a serious point of contention for Paul that he himself, if he were to see the way Pastor Joseph Selman is trying to “complete” this gospel of Grace with the Gospel of the Kingdom while casting doubt over Grace, Paul would be very, very angry.

It is my Prayer that God brings Pastor Joseph Selman to the light and that he sees the errors of his doctrine for creeping in “works-based-salvation” into the church. Salvation doesnt just save you “to” God, it also saves you “from” sin. Both works of salvation are wroght by God and God alone hallelujah. In heaven, we shall see many homosexuals and protitutes and thieves all saved by Grace and not a single iota of thier fleshy works would have contributed to it.

Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. _Matthew 21:31 KJV

Now that you have read all this, go back and re-read Pastor Joseph Selman’s Quotes again and see how it is full of doctrinal errors. Pastor Joseph Selman, I know you have a good heart, so I can only say to you and the wonderful work of the ministry that you are doing, More super-abounding (hypereperisseusen ) Grace to you in Jesus’ Name.

1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? _Romans 6:1-2 KJV

It does not compute in Paul’s mind how people can MAKE A PRACTICE of sin that Grace may abound. The fake christians dont have grace and this is what they do. But those who stubbornly refuse to live under the guilt-condemnation of the law have the NEEDED POWER to overcome sin as they focus on Jesus. Pastor Selman, please do not rob true-christians of their empowerment against sin just because fakers are abusing it.

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. _Romans 6:14 KJV
